Delivery and Set up of your cake.

You can either have your cake cake delivered or collected. I recommend delivery and set up of all cakes, that way you can ensure the the cake has been delivered safely with no added stress to yourselves or family members. My vehicle is insured, air conditioned darkened windows to prevent overheating.I have public liability to cover me when I enter public and private buildings.What would happen if you fell over and damaged the cake and also damaged the venues carpet? would you be covered with insurance?
2 years ago I worked with Gary Lyon form ://www.packagingplace.com.au/ and developed the first Extended tier wedding cake box, available in Queensland.When I emmigrated from the U.K. I brought over in my shipping container all my cake decorating tools, stands and wedding cake transporting boxes after a few years the boxes started to wear out, so my search for replacement boxes failed and the only suppliers were overseas.When family members came to visit us, the trade off was free accomodation for them bringing the large cake boxes that fitted flat packed in their large cases!
The thought of transporting a cake not in an enclosed box makes me shudder especially with the amount of flying bugs that we have over here!
Imagine standing in a venue elevator with your wedding cake not in a box with a fellow traveller sneezing ! not very hygienic. I was amazed when I would arrive at a wedding venue with multiple reception rooms and see other cake makers deliver their cakes to the venues on bread trays, not even boxed?
After several weeks of working with a few samples a suitable designed boxed with Gary and a few cups of coffee with cake later! a great designed transporting box that can also have an extension layer added to enclose even taller cakes that I create, a wonderful enclosed box was now designed.
The Packaging Place also sell wonderful bonbonniere products ribbon and packaging for all, offer a fantastic postage service and a wonderful customer experience should you visit them for collection.
Prior to delivering a cake I will contact the venue and arrange a suitable time for the cake to be delivered and set up.
I will contact the venue organiser a few days prior to the event. I will also advise them that the venue will need to be airconditioned and so if the venue is not air conditioned 24 hours, they will need to turn it on an hour prior to delivery.
Delivery is always made when the room has been set up and not during. I try to ensure that the cake is the last delivery in the room, so that that the cake is perfect and there is no chance of the cake table being moved or knocked.
A piece of French stain ribbon tied around your cake knife to complete your wedding cake table. A cutting guide with the cake flavours is left with the orgainizer to ensure the cake size is cut correctly and if you are keeping your top tier cake for your first wedding anniversary, a cake box with freezing details will be left with the wedding organizer so that the cake can be boxed and returned back to you in pristine condition, ready for the cake to be frozen. Deliverywill be a few hours prior to the reception starting and if you are having mock shots of the cutting of the cake please advise me for an earlier delivery.
Collecting the cake.
Collection of your cake can be organised from my home address in Dasiy Hill and your cake will be packaged for you to transport to the venue.Your vehicle will need to be big enough to transport your cake and air conditioned. I do not recommend the cake to be placed on a seat or being held, definetly not transported in the boot of your car as this will be too hot.
You may have a selection of vehicles to use/borrow and a more suitable vehicle would be a station wagon or a 4 wd that is spacious.The cake can be placed in the centre of the vehicle away from the heat source of the windows.If you are collecting additional items from other retailers, i.e flowers, balloons, catering I suggest I am the last collection as you do not want your beautiful cake in your car without the air conditioning running.You must also make sure you have the space to place your boxed cake.
Gripper matt will be provide to place under your box to prevent movement. Make sure there are no loose items that can move into your cake, pushchairs, cool boxes etc spare tyres.
When you drive with your cake in the car, I advise you to drive slower, brake a little longer and take those sharp corners slower and wider!
I remember reading an article several years ago that said delivering cakes is very stressful and to demonstrate that they placed a heart monitor on a cake deliverer and a heart surgeon.The monitor of the cake deliverer was running faster and the heart surgeon was calm and constant, so let the professionals deliver your cakes!
