Ronald Mc Donald House has 2 centres in Brisbane did you know? one based at Herston (Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital and Royal Childrens Hospital) and one at the Mater (south Brisbane) and also one in Townsville.

They offer a home, away from home for families of seriously ill children who are undergoing medical treatment at nearby hospitals.You can donate your time, subject to being checked, you can donate your skills, cooking, reading, donate  tinned and non perishable food, books, toys and gifts to be wrapped for Christmas and  for childrens birthdays that stay there.


It was only by chance I watched the  Secret Millionaire programme a couple of years ago on television, which featured one of the houses in Brisbane.This touched my heart because my son Adam, was very ill when he was a baby. My husband and I had to travel to London several times to Guys Hospital and the Maudsley Hospital and we were fortunate to  stay at my Aunts house in London, otherwise we would have been financially drained by hotel bills for the weeks of tests and scans.

Adam  is fine now, the only side effects is an untidy bedroom!!! Apparently there is no cure!!!!

So since I have been teaching I always have a cake from each class that I teach, I would sometimes drop it off to the various librarys in my areas or just cut it into 3 and divide it between my neighbours (yes thats why our neighbours all loves us so much!)

So when I watched the t.v. programme it was a light bulb moment I realised the perfect place for my cakes to go.

I gave the house a call and told them I have spare lovely themed childrens cakes and would they want them after each class ........ well the rest is history as they say!

I visit the home several times a month with each cake that I have demonstrated and made in each class.They are enjoyed by all, parents and staff included!
